Topic 4-StoryJumper, ZooBurst

I really had fun with this site. I think grade school children would like the format. I like how it grouped choices into easy to read and recognize icons. Props, scenes, photos, and text were clear choices and easily edited. The colors were bright and I think kids would like to navigate through this site.

Zooburst was exciting because of the 3D effects. I am not sure that it would be a good choice for first graders to make their own as it is a little more complicated, but they would love to watch the sample books over and over again.

Both programs were very neat. I just am not sure how much they would be able to do these on their own.....

Pioneer Valley books have the same characters that appear throughout their books. Several years ago, they offered a CD in which you can insert students names in a variety of "scripted texts."  We inserted their names and gave them a book with their name or nickname in it. They were just so excited.  Now, we can go online and make an entire book on our own and can not only use each child's individual name but their personality in their story. How cool is that?

HotPotatoes-Topic 3

This seemed more user friendly. It is clearly labeled and was very easy to construct a survey without problems. It seems "cleaner" than PollEverywhere and user friendly.

#3-PollEverywhere

I tried a simple poll with three choices for a favorite book. I like how you can try it out for free and it was very user friendly. Once I submitted the survey, a text code was indicated as well as a internet choice.  It seemed easy enough to do. I am not sure if I would use it in a first grade classroom as I have an well earned fear of 6 year olds picking the first choice on EVERY question just to watch the screen blink to the next question!!!! They always want to get done first even when we review and review why the SHOULDNT be the first one done!

Picaso

  1. Name of the tool and web address-- Picasa
  2. Likes/dislikes of the tool or ease of use-I was able to take a photo that was on our computer and use it to become my profile picture on this blog. I had a comment on it when it was on Picasa but it didn't show up on blogger.
  3. How you can use this tool in your classroom: I think it would be fun to have the first graders make their own valentine's card for their families. They can have their picture and a comment on the cover.

**Since we have macbooks I went into iPhoto to get the pictures. I am not sure if it is a compatibility issue, but there were some pictures from iPhoto that Picasa could not find or it had incompatibility issues. I am not sure if it is that or user error--(probably user error!)**

PreZentit experiment

I used it to make a banner for Intech 11, just to see how easy it would be. I was able to make one fairly easy but for a newbie I fumbled around to get a finished product. I am not sure if you can see it, but here it is.......
